“Appleatchee is one of my very favorite places to visit for a horse show! Being an equine photographer, I visit it quite a bit, whether it's for a show or for a portrait session for the boarders and their horses. I'm incredibly lucky to live only 10 minutes away from this gorgeous facility.”

DeEtte P.
"I come from the Seattle area and this place is amazing. There's a huge variety of horseman (women) but from what I have seen, we all have the same goal: horsemanship and enjoying our horses. I am lucky to be a part of this facility"
Juliane H.
"this place is amazing! If you ever visit you HAVE to climb saddle rock. Absolutely stunning views up there. The stables are pretty nice, and you can put horses across from each other so they can see each other and plenty of alleyway space. There is also a really fun obstacle course just past the road that has bleachers for people who want to watch. The obstacle course has some jumps, but still plenty of room for people who don't want to jump. The arenas are very nice and spacey, although the J.S. Sparks arena has only 1 set of bleachers, but the lower one has plenty. If you board there, the horses can go outside in a little mini paddock. Also, there is plenty of room for campers or motorhomes. The outdoor arenas are very nice as well, and the round pen has very tall walls so horses can't jump out. Overall, it's a very nice place you should definitely visit sometime."

Learn more about joining the board
To join the Appleatchee Board, you must be a member in good standing that has been a member for at least 1 year. If you are on a Family Membership, only one member of that family can hold a position on the board.
Selecting the Board
Board members are nominated by the Nominating Committee. The Committee is made up of the current year’s Trustees. Executive Board Members and three Trustees are voted on every year at the Annual Meeting. Trustee positions are a two-year term.
Can I Vote?
Per our Bylaws, a certain number of 'voting members' are required. Voting Members are members that vote on the board positions and other items brought up at the Annual Meeting. If you are eligible to become a voting member, paperwork is sent out a few weeks prior to the Annual Meeting.
President
It shall be the duty of the President to preside at all annual and special meetings of the members and at all meetings of the Board of Trustees and to perform generally all duties incident to the office of President. The President shall have the power to appoint such committees as he or she may deem necessary from time to time.
Cole Stuart
Cole has been a member of Appleatchee for about seven years now and has spent three years on the board. He’s tried a little of every discipline on his mare Moo, but can't pin himself down to just one.
Cole says “I ran for president because I believe in the future of this Association. I feel this Club and its Members made me into the person I am now, and want to do my part to make sure it's preserved for generations to come. I ride bareback almost every evening to help with an old back injury. Apparently, I look unapproachable, but I'm always interested in having new members join me for a few leisurely laps around the grounds.”

Vice President
The duties and powers of the President shall devolve upon the Vice-President during the absence of the President. The Vice-President shall at all times assist the President in the performance of the duties of the President.

At or before each meeting of the Board of Trustees the Secretary shall provide the minutes of the last meeting to the Board for approval.
Tammy Wheeler
Tammy has been riding at Appleatchee since the 1970s and has been an active member since 2005. She has served on the board as a Trustee, the Treasurer, and most recently as the board Secretary. Tammy grew up in a family that raised Quarter Qorses and she has been riding for more than 50 years. Tammy has ridden and competed in many different disciplines including gaming, roping, rodeo, general Western Riding, and halter, but now her passion lies in Three Day Eventing. Tammy says she is so grateful to live in a community with such an amazing club owned facility. Appleatchee allows her the opportunity to continue riding and growing as a horse person.

Treasurer
It shall be the duty of the Treasurer to oversee the books and accounts of the Corporation. The Treasurer shall provide a complete and accurate report to the members annually, and interim reports as the Board of Trustees directs, upon the financial affairs of the Corporation. The Treasurer shall provide an accounting of all the funds coming into the possession of the Corporation.
Karen Kooy
Karen has been an Appleatchee member for about 30 years and has served on the board since 2014. She previously served as a trustee and was elected Treasurer in 2022.
Karen has been horse crazy for as long as she can remember and got her first horse when she was 16 years old. She has been competitively reining for around 8 years but also enjoys the occasional trail ride.
While Karen's husband does not share her passion for horses, she says he tolerates them and the rest of her animals. Karen also has cats, dogs and chickens. Karen has three biological children and three adopted children and recently welcomed her 10th grandchild!

Hannah Schneider
Hannah has been a member of Appleatchee for about 20 years, after her parents finally let her “try out” the horse thing when she was going through her horse crazy phase. That phase never ended. In those 20 years, Hannah has participated in about every horse discipline possible, from saddleseat to roping, in 4-H and WaHSET. Now, she spends most of her time at Appleatchee riding for fun with her family.
This is Hannah’s second term as an Appleatchee Trustee, and she looks forward to helping promote and improve an organization that has been an important part of her life for so long.

Bethany Symonds
Bethany has been a member of Appleatchee for about 20 years, her horse crazy phase beginning because she wanted to do everything her older sister did. Eventually, Bethany branched out from her sister, and began showing miniature horses in driving and in-hand classes in 4-H and WaHSET. Since Bethany retired her driving mini, Magic, she now enjoys riding her horse, River, for fun with her family.
This is Bethany’s first term as an Appleatchee Trustee, and she looks forward to learning more about Appleatchee, and figuring out the best ways to make it accessible for all the different horse disciplines.

Latifa Whitefall
I have been a member of Appleatchee for about 14 years now. For the majority of my membership, I had the pleasure of teaching and training a variety of disciplines. My background is in dressage, 3-day eventing and jumping. Over time this morphed to include and then focus on western events; primarily reining. I am currently taking a break from teaching and training as my career in real estate is keeping me very busy! I'm so grateful to have the opportunity to serve on the board and to give back to the community and facility that has given me so much!!
